Helene C. Herbert
New Jersey Family Law, Employment Law and Business Law Attorney
Helene C. Herbert is a partner in Herbert & Weiss, an Englewood law firm serving clients in Fort Lee and throughout Bergen County in the areas of divorce and family law, employment law, business law, real estate, estate planning and more. The firm has done significant appellate work and represents several municipalities in tax appeals.
As a family law attorney, Ms. Herbert’s practice includes contested and uncontested divorces; negotiating and drafting prenuptial agreements, marital property settlements, and separation agreements for domestic partnerships and civil unions; and resolving issues of alimony, child support, custody, and visitation rights. She also assists individuals and businesses in matters involving employment discrimination, sexual harassment and civil rights.
A native of northern New Jersey, Helene Herbert obtained her Bachelor of Science degree at William Paterson College of New Jersey, where she earned a place on the Dean’s List and the National Honor Society of Psychology Students. She later earned her Juris Doctor law degree across the Hudson at City University of New York, where she served on the Committee for Academic Standing, the Scholastic Standing Committee, and on the General Assembly for the Student Government.
A Lengthy Record of Community Involvement
Ms. Herbert’s history of community involvement includes serving as a former Moonachie Councilwoman and affirmative action officer, during which time she drafted a municipal sexual harassment policy and was involved in rent leveling, law enforcement, the Teterboro Airport and Planning Board. She has also served as a prosecutor in the Boroughs of Moonachie and Little Ferry and as a municipal court judge in the Borough of Bergenfield. In addition, Ms. Herbert has been the co-coordinator for the Women’s Rights Information Center Legal Project, co-counsel for the Shelter Our Sisters Legal Advocacy project, and a participating attorney for the Bergen County Legal Advocacy Project for the Victims of Domestic Violence.
Ms. Herbert serves on the Early Settlement Panel program, assisting in settling matrimonial cases in the Superior Court, Bergen County, New Jersey. She is currently Vice Chair of the District IIB Ethics Committee for the New Jersey courts. Ms. Herbert is a municipal court judge in two municipalities, Waldwick and Bergenfield.
Commendations and Recognitions
Helene Herbert has been honored by Women Lawyers in Bergen County for being an attorney and “Trailblazer.” She has received Certificates of Commendation for Outstanding Service to Victims of Domestic Violence from the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders and for Outstanding Service to Victims of Domestic Violence from the Bergen County Department of Human Services. Additionally, she has been honored by Shelter our Sisters for advocacy for Bergen County families, and recognized by the State of New Jersey General Assembly and Senate for contributions to Bergen County families.
